Forgiveness is for You

  • If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 ESV

So there I sat in my prayer room, feeling washed up and wondering why I was there at all that day. After going through a drawn out messy divorce, I didnt go to church at all and rarely prayed. I felt that the Lord was done with me. I had let Him down and the whole church as well. Yep, those days are finished, I thought.

I thought there may be hell in my future, but at least I was free from the hell on earth. As I sat there thinking on this, I flipped open my Bible and it fell on Rom 11:29: For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. I pondered this a moment and thought, "What if I have not trashed Gods plan for me?"

I prayed about this over the next week, and that is exactly how He felt. Sure, God hates divorce, but He is divorced as well (Jer. 3:8). Hes been there. He was waiting on me to get up from my bed of self condemnation and I learned that I can be forgiven as well. We all fall, but not all get up, and the church has become skilled at keeping you down after a divorce.

We all know that others can be forgiven, but often when we stumble, we just dont see it for us. When you fall, get up. God is not angry with you. He does not take back His gifts or His calling because you stumble. His plan is still on for your life and you are the only one that can stop that. Forgiveness is for you as well.

Prayer: Father, please show me areas of my life where I need to accept Your forgiveness. Set me free from my past, restore what the enemy has taken from me Lord, in the name of Jesus. (From the book 40 Days of Faith).

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield I needed this message today, Pastor Todd. I've been legally divorced for 6 years, but my ex lives in my basement (The deed is solely in my name) calls himself Hades and refers to the basement as his "Underground"--all simply to irk me because of my faith. Some days, forgiveness just doesn't seem possible.Yet, if I threw him out, he'd be living under a bridge--and not caring one bit. What can you do when someone you care about refuses help to such an extent? Thanks and blessings, Kathy

Kay Rushin This is one of the main reason we need to forgive others, we are forgiven. You are restored, a new creature. You share his spiritual DNA, when you receive him as your savior you become a part of him, all power is in your hands via our Lord.

AutumnEve Slawienski
AutumnEve Slawienski You don't know how much I NEEDED this today... And YES... it IS TRUE! Our churches today are very skilled at keeping us down after divorce. I am living proof of that. Divorce was not something that I wanted, but I needed to protect my family physically, emotionally, spiritually and financially. The ONLY way to ensure all of that was to completely detach from my spouse. I am still remind of that sin (by other "Christians") regularly. Thank you for reminding me that God loves me STILL!!!!! and that He can and will STILL use me.

Carol Pady
Carol Pady In my personal walk with Jesus,  the accusations of my past sins are continually before me. I find this tool of Satan causes many Christians to stumble. We want to give up and throw in the towel, but Jesus who dwells in us will not let that happen. Nothing will snatch us out of our Father's hand. A word from a Christian friend or a devotion will bring us back to the reality that we are forgiven , past , present and future. We are heirs of God, son's and daughters of the King. Our inheritance of eternal life in God's Kingdom is assured, Jesus paid it all!!!

Deleted Member Carol, always remember when your past is brought back up to yo, it is not Jesus, because when He forgives, He forgets and He can never remember it no more. So tell satan, in the Name of Jesus get behind me and keep on loving and trusting Jesus. He will take care of you/

Deleted Member Amen, listen to Jesus and not the world, because the world and even sometimes Christians can hurt us so, but I have learned to take them to Jesus in prayer and lay it at His feet. Even though I might still worry sometimes about what others say, I then again remind myself, Jesus is the only One I have to please. He loves us and He will us us for His glory and to be a light that others could see Jesus in us. God bless you:)

Cheryl Hepler
Cheryl Hepler Thank you for sharing.  Have to look up Jer.3:8.  Did not know God was divorced.  I know the experiencse in some ways of divorce.  I had prayed, fasted and waited over 2years for God to work or show me what I was to do, to think or/and move on.  My heart dragged.  I did not want it yeat all signs of alcoholism were lumming so evident you could smell it as the alcohol.  My kids were ruined it also.  Heartbreak after heartbreak.  I was in a congregational prayer meeting and afterwards we were to break in small groups of 3 or 4 to pray for each other.  I was hurting sooo bad.  Couldn't eat etc.  True heart break was at hand.  As we bowed heads praying for each other I had a vision of stew beef cut into pieces.  I saw it clearly.  Then heard the Lord speak and say "this is your heart....I want you to put all it's pieces up on the altar giving it totally to me".  I did.  I knew He was healing me.  It all made so much sense.  Completely and totally!!  Afterwards in days to come I could feel/sense it.  Took a while for it was truly in need of rest(in Him) and time.  I did not like it...the divorce or what damage it did to my daughter and son.  The whole story is I lost three in a short time.  Becoming a Christian before this also upset my father and brother and friends.  I was in a cult they'd say.  Some blamed God for all that happened.  I was able with help of many Christian sisters and brothers to experience a type of stretcher carrying me thru it all.   As a pastor's secretary I was in sight of a fracturing of another family....my church.  It fell apart.  Great division.  Sad so sad.  Too much loss for me and quite a few others.  We looked like trees wondering around in a desert not able to find a place to put our roots down and grow to stay put.  Many are in the church we are in.  They like us went church to church until this one which has some similarities.  Too large and hard to connect. We stay hoping something will change for no leadings where to go.  Family is important is what all this I write is about.  I have a wonderful husband and helped to raise three children who also have the unfortunate affects of addiction.  There mom is a drug addict.  My husband and I get it and God gets us for He gets "it".Children need a lot of healing and continue to pray salvation for them and mates as well as grandchildren.   Think about this....your experience touched mine. God IS in it!!!  Admit I did some weeping while typing.  Like death of loved ones the scar is there.

Karen Pasquinelli
Karen Pasquinelli Cheryl, my divorce was because my 1st hubby had an alcohol problem too.  It took me years to gather the courage to go thru a divorce, my kids were grown by the time I gathered that courage.  I had always lived on hope and a prayer that he would quit but he didn't :(.  We did part friends though.  I never stopped loving him I just couldn't watch him continue to kill himself (he passed away 9 years ago).  I did not have to see it and thank God for that.  I have been remarried for 10 years to a man who doesn't have the drinking problem so never any arguments and I have no complaints.  My kids were affected by the drinking but now they walk with God and I am so proud of them for that.  It just amazes me how God works in our lives.

Nell Neathery
Nell Neathery Pastor Todd, yesterday, your devotional was in my email above my pastor's morning share (John Cunyus).  Tonight, it is below his, so this is my bedtime devotional tonight.  It's never too late for restoration after life's problems...ask for forgiveness and forgive yourself and others.  TGIF tomorrow:  thank goodness I am forgiven!  I am glad all of my most serious past problems all occurred out of town and out of state.  I am in a good hometown now with good neighbors and a good community, moving forward for new and positive memories.  :-)
