Call Me Brother

Genesis 20:11- Abraham replied, "I said to myself, there is surely no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.' Besides, she really is my sister, the daughter of my father though not of my mother; and she became my wife. And when God had me wander from my father’s household, I said to her, this is how you can show your love to me. Everywhere we go, say of me, "He is my brother."'

Abraham had a wife who was old in years, but still very desirable. Many places they went to, the men of that area found her to be beautiful, even at the age of 90!

This story on the surface looks like it is all fear based with Abraham, and yet we know from scripture that Abraham was a man so full of faith, that it was credited to him as righteousness. Now we know that Abraham was not under the law as he was before the law.  So to be righteous because of faith only, means that his faith was pure. I believe this encounter is a picture of Jesus with His bride, which is you and me. We are very desirable and many godless entities want us. They want to take us away from who we belong to, and make us theirs.

This is not fear that Abraham has of losing his life, rather it is to show the faith that He has in God. We may see this as a cowardly act, and yet he relies so much on God that even in a place like Gerar which was ruled by Abimelech, God was still there. He (God) came to Abimelech in a dream to tell him the truth, and to not touch Sarah or else...

You see Abraham said to Sarah, this is how you can show your love to me. Everywhere we go, say of me, He is my brother.

That is the same with us. Jesus is our brother, He is our savior of course, He is our redeemer, He is our bridegroom, and yet the relationship that is as close as a brother is one that is intimate. We do have the same father, but not the same mother. We who are born again in Jesus Christ are heirs of God our Father, and so we have the same Father.

Abraham continues and says...And when God had me wander from my father’s household... Jesus left the comfort of His Father's household to come here on earth to be with us, to gather us up and to bring us into relationship with Him. This is how we know this is a picture of Jesus. Hebrews 2:11 says this: Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.

This is how we can show love to Jesus, everywhere we go, say of Him, He is my brother. He is my brother, and so much more. He is our bridegroom for those of us in the church. The Body of Christ. And so we are one in the same, as God the Father, The Son, The Holy Spirit are One in the same, we too are the same, the bride, the brother/sister of Jesus, and heir in the Kingdom of God.

John completes what I want to share with you today. John 3:29-The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom's voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.

We are complete in Jesus. We have Jesus and are as righteous as Abraham because we have faith in Jesus. Let us all be at rest today in our place. We are all uniquely made to be one equally in the body of Christ as the bride, and in relationship with Jesus as His brother/ sister. It is in that knowledge that we have all we ever need in this life and in heaven.

Thank You father for blessing us with Your Son to make us whole and worthy to be in Your presence. Thank You for blessing us to be as a brother and sister to our Lord Jesus Christ. It is in Him that we flourish in our walk today in Jesus name, amen.
