Trust or Bust

  • If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all. Isaiah 7:9 NIV

Ephraim and Aram formed an alliance and prepared to invade Judah, which terrified the people living there. When the people of Judah learned of the coming invasion, 'The hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken, as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind' (Isaiah 7:2).

The Lord sent the prophet Isaiah and he told them not to worry for it would not happen. 'Be careful, keep calm and don't be afraid. Do not lose heart' (Isaiah 7:4). God then told them to stand firm in their faith, or they would not stand at all.

The words of this verse in the original language are a rhyme and basically mean 'trust or bust.' God said that it is time for all or nothing. You are in, or you are out. So many times God had proven His faithfulness to them, but it was like that He had to start completely over each time that a new problem arose.

It is important to God, and to our success on this earth, that we believe what He tells us. His promises are no good when we refuse to believe Him. He has come through for us so many times before, but each time when we are faced with a new trial, we often start over again in unbelief just as they did.

There will be times when we are faced with terrible circumstances that make us want to cower, turn back, or stop what the Lord has called us to do. This is when we should examine ourselves and see whether it is the Lord calling us to a different direction, or is it just our fear holding us back. After all, we always imagine the worst possible thing.

If God is not giving us a new direction then we stand on the last word from Him until He gives us a new one. When we have done all, we stand (Ephesians 6:13). We remind ourselves of what God has done for us in the past and build ourselves up. He does not need prove His faithfulness again and again because we believe Him. It is time to trust or bust. Today, stand firm in your faith no matter how dark the horizon appears.

Prayer: Father, I choose to trust You. I know that Your way is best and today I stand on Your word. No weapon formed against me will prosper. I serve Almighty God, what can man do to me? You have brought me this far and are able to take care of me. May Your will be done in my life, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: Good morning! A couple of group announcements today. For Creation Photographers, the theme of the week is: FLOWERS! Be sure to keep an eye out there for God''s amazing creation in flowers, and post them at the group (you can still post anything else, as well :))! Also, the FAAD topic of the week is part one of "Witnessing: Life Happens". The teaching is in the discussion tab of the FAAD group, but I believe you would all be blessed by it, whether or not you suffer from anxiety or depression. Have a blessed day!

Mark Duell
Mark Duell Amen. This word for the day is so applicable for the time we are living in today. It's almost nonexistant today. Our brothers and sisters overseas are standing firm right up to their last breath. Can we find those of us here in the US that will do th same? So many are giving in to the PC culture of today. Lord, give us the strength and courage to move forward and fight for you till our last breath.

Martin Snyderedited: November 3, 2015 I hit the "button" that indicated that I like this, the truth is - I love this but there isn't a "button" to indicate that. I have engaged satan in battle this morning and we are standing with horns locked at this moment and I will not back down and I will remain standing because I know we win in the end. When the battle is over and the dust clears, I will stand victorious with God at my side. I ask for your prayers to hold me up strong in my battle, I love our God and I love you, thank you for being my friends and thatnk you for standing with me.

Cathy Webb I stand in prayer with you, Martin! The battle is fierce and the pulls of Satan's doubt are strong. We serve the most powerful God. Praise Him for the victory over sin. Praise Him for Pastor Dion and those who rally us to trust and stand firm. Thank you, Lord, for Your faithfulness! Amen.

Dion Todd Remember to laugh occasionally because nothing the enemy tries against you will succeed. Stand with God and declare "Lord I stand with You and I know that You have got my back. I will not fear or backdown but will see this through to the end."  I pray that the Lord gives you complete victory over your battle in the name of Jesus Christ.

Albert Chau I have been in a trying situation before, and it was exactly like the message today. Either trust the Lord and walk away or not at all and suffer the consequences. It was a lesson I never forgot that there is no choice in between when it comes to faith.

Carol Pady Amen! Faith and trust in our Father is absolutely necessary to get answered prayer!  When it appears we are losing the battle is when we need to Trust Him deeply. It opens the door to receive His blessings.  Be prepared for a mighty turn of circumstances as those blessings pour down!

K K
K K Amen! Always so timely. Was praying for strength as I head in today knowing the "odds" are against me at work due to disability yet praying that God give me the strength and resolve to face whatever I must and trust He will see me through and to not panic about my future. My life is His and in His hands. There is no other more secure feeling than that. I am and have done all I am humanly able to do. He is able to do anything! So I pray for His peace in my soul as I face this and other days to come this week and forward. Bless you all. Amen.

K K Thank you Lisa. Amen to all that. I just got news earlier that a friend I hadn't seen in about a year (from church because I go to a different one now) passed away last night. So, my worries seem pretty small right now. He was a faithful follower so I know he's resting in Gods love after his cancer battle. Thank you for your prayers! God bless you!

Liesel aka Lisa Wardle
Liesel aka Lisa Wardle Amen and Amen! I needed to hear this today! So many dark clouds have been moving in in the form of health and other problems affecting my family here and overseas ... But I thank the word of the Lord God most high spoken through the prophet Isaiah and your spirit-filled message "Trust or Bust" !!! I realize that I'm exactly where the Lord wants me to be, and I'll "keep calm, not loose heart, wait on the Lord and stand firm on my faith"! I'm following and reading your messages as I can, they help me to grow in my daily walk with the Lord; however, there are times, when I'm unable to type away, leave comments, etc., because of the "thorn in my flesh" so to speak, and I'll have to live with it. But PRAISE THE LORD, for He is good, He is my helper and my strength !!!

Leland Fay
Leland Fay The most powerful articles of faith in my life are the experiences I have of God solving one problem after another in my life. As a recovering alcoholic with 24 years of sobriety I can tell you it is only by the Grace of God that I am still here. This can also be said of all the years in between, with a series of mental, emotional and spiritual challenges that have been presented... The latest of which was a stage iv cancer diagnosis three years ago in which I was given 6 weeks to live. All praise to God that I have survived tumors in liver, stomach, lungs along with 98 tumors in the brain. My story has been featured in different medical journals as a medical miracle. All I know is that I am still here to be with my wife and children. Yet despite all this I still doubt and grow afraid with embarrassing regularity. Thank you for reminding me that it is my responsibility to get my own mind and spirit together and remind myself of what He has done. Of my own I am nothing the Father does the works!
