Why I Do What I Do

  • Why I Do What I Do from Jim Jarrell on Vimeo.

I would like to welcome everyone to tonight's video message for Refreshing Hope Ministries. By now you probably know that my name is Jim Jarrell. I would like to thank you for being here, and Dion and Sylvia for allowing me to be a part of this Wednesday evening service. I understand that I am not the most charismatic speaker, nor do I make the most entertaining videos in the world. But, I am willing to try. I can only speak from my heart about things I have experienced in life and chose my words very carefully.

As many of you know, I have just spent some time with family in Virginia. I encountered so many people whom I had not seen in years. So many of them treated me with a respect that I was not expecting. Anyone who is aware of my passed should understand what I am saying. Many of them asked me what I was doing these days. As I explained to them that I had retired from working, and I now taught the things God has shown me. I tried to explain to them why and how Refreshing Hope works and how it can reach out to so many more people than a regular church. So many people thought it was great that we preach the salvation message over the internet. I tried so hard to explain to each of them, that is not my purpose in life. My purpose is to encourage people who are saved to go beyond their salvation. I still believe that the single most awesome miracle is the salvation of any one person.

But I have experienced that there is so much more after salvation. When I am able to give someone a prophetic word about them developing real peace in their lives and then show them how. To me, that is a true gift that can only come from God. How many wounded, sick or broke people are there in this world. I love to speak God’s word and then to pray for those who need healing, I have been allowed to see so many healed on the spot. So many of them believe that Jesus is Messiah, and they confess with their mouths that the Holy Spirit raised Jesus from the grave. But when asked, they do not seem to understand Matthew 6:33 which says; “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.” When I am able to explain the things they need in life can be theirs according to the Bible, most people do not know that is possible.

It truly amazes me that so few have ever read all the way through the Bible. Far too many people seem to believe it is the pastor’s job to read the Bible and explain to them what it says. So few people even know that all through the Bible, the one thing God says so often, is that people could know that God is really there. I can tell everyone that if you will truly seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness, you may not have every thing you want in life, but you will have everything you need and more. I have also experienced that Isaiah 44:26 is true which says; “Confirming the word of His servants and performing the purpose of His messengers.” What I have found is that when God calls someone to speak His word, He will confirm that word with signs that will follow. That is why you see people praying for the sick and the needy after they have spoken God’s word. So many times, that is when miracles happen. God really does want everyone to know that He is still alive and speaking through His servants.

As true as all that is, it is still not the reason I do what I do. My true purpose comes from the time when the Apostle Paul was on this earth, so many of the letters he wrote became scripture in the Bible. When I first read these verses, they seemed to almost jump of the page at me. In his second letter to the Thessalonian Church, the people seemed to wonder if Jesus had already come back and they just missed it somehow. The Apostle Paul wrote in 2nd Thessalonians 2:1-5; “Now we request you brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together to Him, that you may not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the affect that the day of the Lord has come. Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the APOSTASY comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God. Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things.

The Apostle Paul says so much in this chapter. First of all, Paul is saying that yes Jesus is coming back and He will gather believers to Him, but there are things that have to happen first. First the Apostasy will come, what does that mean? For anyone who does not know, the Bible is a very ancient book and it was not written originally in English. It was written in a few different languages and has been translated into English. There are certain translations of the Bible into English that have their own concordance written in a book called the Strong’s Concordance. That is why I use The New American Standard Bible. There is a Strong’s Concordance for it. According to the Strong’s for the NASB, the word Apostasy comes from the Greek word “Apostasia” which is Strong’s # G646 and is translated to mean “forsake or falling away”. So, what Paul is telling us is that there will be a falling away happen before Jesus comes back.

What will cause this falling away? The Apostle Paul goes on to tell us that the “Man of Lawlessness will be revealed. In 2nd Thessalonians 2: 8-9 the Bible says; “And then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring an end by the appearance of His coming; that is, the one whose coming in accord with the activity of Satan with all power and signs and false wonders. In other words, this man of lawlessness will be given great power by Satan to do all kinds of miraculous things. He will do this to deceive as many people as he can into worshiping him and his power. One may ask, how can we recognize him? The Apostle John said in 1st John 3:4; “Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.” So, this man of lawlessness will promote people to practice sin and lawlessness, he should be very easy to identify. The Apostle Paul says in 2nd Thessalonians 2:7; “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. So, this is why you see so much pain and suffering around the world, sin is already working in those who do not believe the truth.

The Apostle Peter also spoke of this day coming in 2nd Peter 3:3-4; “Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, Where is this promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation. In my mind, this will not take much more to see happen, there are so many people who do not believe or have not experienced God is real yet. It seems to me that there are so many people who are willing to mock Christians for their faith today.

Jesus also spoke of this time of falling away in Matthew 24:10-14, when His disciples had asked Him how to know the end of this age. He said; “And at that time many will fall away and will deliver up one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise, and mislead many. And lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end, he shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” Please notice that even Jesus said there would be a time when people would fall away. He said as lawlessness is increased, most people would fall away.

While I was in Virginia, my immediate family had dinner together. As I sat listening to the conversation at the table, one thing became quite clear, there are a lot of unsatisfied people in America. The diversity setting around that table was extensive, there were both men and women. There were college graduates and there were others who had never been to college. There were young and not so young. Everyone was family, but there was so little that anyone could agree on. It was truly amazing. Probably the one thing that most would agree on, is that society as a whole is broken. It seemed there was a variety of ideas on how to fix this society, but not one idea that everyone could agree on.

I cannot help but wonder if what the Apostle Paul wrote in his letter to the Thessalonian people, is not happening today. Did Jesus and the Apostle Peter see this day and write to warn us? I am very aware that other generations could have asked the same questions. When I look around at what is happening in American society today, I have to ask, do we really appreciate all of the fallen heroes who died to set us free? Do we really believe in the truth the BIBLE teaches us? Does truth and justice really mean the innocent can have their day in our courts? Has so much darkness overtaken society that the man of lawlessness is ready to be revealed?

The Old Testament Prophet said in Isaiah 60:1&2; Arise and shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness will cover the earth, and deep darkness the peoples; but the Lord will rise upon you and His glory will appear on you. I believe that every prophecy written in the Bible will be fulfilled before Jesus comes back. For what ever reason, God has made Himself very real to me, and if I can help others not to fall away or to have more faith. Then I have accomplished my mission in life. This is why I do what I do, some day when God allows His glory to be seen here again, I would like it to shine on me and everyone whom I can encourage.

I continue to pray that Revival will come again and that God will reveal His Glory to us. If the conversations around your dinner table are anything like I just experienced, we certainly need to seek His face and His TRUTH! My name is Jim Jarrell, and I hope to see you again. I will be in the chatroom, to pray for anyone who would like or to answer any questions I can. Thank you!
