If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine. Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats? Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and perform your vows to the Most High, and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me. Psalms 50:1215 ESV
A reader emailed us yesterday after I posted "A Stranger at the Diner", the story about a former pastor who was prompted to give $20 to a person in need. The reader thought that she would not be able to help anyone because of her financial situation. While God does call us to make a sacrifice of money sometimes, He will just as often be calling you to other acts of obedience. If you feel a prompting to pray for someone who has been rejected by others, spend time with a friend though you are busy, offer a word of encouragement to someone across the room, etc., obey and you will be blessed.
There is something we can all give, though, that God does not have: praise and thanksgiving from your heart. While God owns the entire universe, that is something that is truly ours, under our control and we give it to whomever we want. So simple in theory, yet so difficult in practice. Stump your toe and see what comes out. God thank you for not letting me break it would be a good response, yet sometimes I do something else.
Be thankful for what God has already given you. If you are reading this, you have eyes and are evidently still breathing. Be thankful. Tell God, Thank you for what you have already done for me. Praise is right along those lines. God, You are AWESOME! I could have never done that without You! He is so worthy of our thanksgiving and praise; don't waste the opportunities each day to tell Him and show Him.
Prayer: Father, I thank you for giving me breath, for saving me through the sacrifice of Your Son, and for the love you show me each day. Please help me to have a heart of gratitude and ears that are sensitive to your voice, in the name of Jesus.
