Therefore let's also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let's run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before h...

Then Mordecai asked them to return this answer to Esther: "Don't think to yourself that you will escape in the king's house any more than all the Jews. For if you remain silent now, then relief and deliverance will come to the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. Who...

In the same hour, the fingers of a man's hand came out and wrote near the lamp stand on the plaster of the wall of the king's palace. The king saw the part of the hand that wrote. Then the king's face was changed in him, and his thoughts troubled him; and the joints of his thighs were loosened, and ...

A One-Hundred Fold Return

  • Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you. Luke 6:38 ESV

The visiting speaker who had ridden in on a bus was in need of money and had delivered a great message. He was humble and I felt like his heart was in the right place. I had already paid my tithes for the week but I looked in my wallet and I had forty dollars, so I placed it in his offering basket. He prayed that the Lord would return everything given, one-hundred fold.

Within a few weeks, someone came up to me and gave me four thousand dollars. It was just someone that I had met by working on their house and they said, I feel like we should help you. That was exactly a one-hundred fold return on my giving, from forty to four-thousand.

Today there has been so much excess and greed in the church that to mention giving is almost taboo. A lot of the ground is contaminated. I had given to many speakers before, but this one was good ground. Jesus said Give and it will be given to you. The measure that you give determines what comes back to you. Even though you may have little to nothing, God can show you who to give to. Remember the widow that only had two mites, yet had given more than everyone else (Mark 12:42).

Gods love is unconditional, but His blessings are not. When reading through the Bible you will find many statements like If you will do this then it will go well with you. You dont have to give us money or go to church, just follow the Lords guidance and give as He tells you. One thing about math is that a one-hundred fold return on zero, is zero.

Prayer: Father, I know that your word tells me to give. I pray that you will show me who you want me to be a blessing to, and that you will guide my giving from this day on, in the name of Jesus.

Karen Pietrantonio
Karen Pietrantonio How very true it is, that for a pastor to mention giving or tithing is not widely accepted by church goers! We are blessed to have a pastor that refers to the Bible when he mentions giving... and those messages can be convicting. As believers, we should be generous and "cheerful givers" (2 Corinthians 9:7). Thank you, Pastor Dion, for this wonderful message!!

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield My problem is: I tend to donate to the wrong charities! Last month, I donated a whopping eight dollars (That's all I could spare on my fixed SS income) to an unnamed Catholic organization. Yesterday, the leader lambasted me because I insisted that, although gays should NOT call their union "Marriage", they certainly have a legal right to a recognized partnership. Well, I may have lost some friends, but I wish they would have at least had the decency to answer my question:"WHAT WOULD JESUS THINK OF THE SUPERIOR COURT DECISION TO LEGALIZE GAY MARRIAGE?" But not one person replied. And I suppose I can't hold my breath waiting for an answer. Love and blessings, Kathy

Julie Schneider This is excellent! My husband and i try to give in secret but sometimes that isnt possible.  We try to give after praying for discernment so that we are "sowing on good ground" but sometimes you just give and hope it is right.

Carol Pady
Carol Pady If our giving is done cheerfully the Lord will  increase the return. There are many ways to give. We can give monetarily or give  of ourselves. The Lord is only concerned with our heart condition as we give. Do we do it out of habit , grudgingly  or do we give generously and happily?

Sylvia Todd
Sylvia Todd Sometimes that's indeed all we can do, Julie :). I think if it is greatly important in one way or the other, the Lord can and will show you! He has shown us both ways, but it isn't something that occurs all the time. At other times, we give when we think the ministry is worthwhile and just pray to hear if there is anything wrong with it.

Sylvia Todd Amen, Carol, attitude is very important! Also yes, there are many ways the Lord may call on us to give. I believe Dion is talking about money there because it's a subject that has been abused in the modern church.

Sylvia Todd
Sylvia Todd If a ministry is attacking you, that's probably a good sign to give somewhere else :)! One thing I'd love to see more of is the body of Christ loving and respecting each other, even when they don't agree. I feel very blessed by the people here at RHM, because as far as I have seen, people have been able to express themselves without being vilified. As far as the "what would Jesus think" question, to be honest, I'm not a fan of that kind of thing. More often than not, the answer would be one to promote a personal or political agenda, and I don't think I can speak for Jesus anyway :). Sometimes, I could say what "I" think that Jesus would think, but that's of pretty limited value :).

Sylvia Todd Agreed, Twila! Though Dion and I have certainly been called to give money, He's just as often required us to provide some of our time. That's at least in part because it's something we value a lot ;-).

Karen Pasquinelli Amen!  This is a great message Pastor Dion.  I don't think it matters who you give to, God knows what is in your heart and why you are giving.  If you are moved to give to someone, do it out of the goodness of your heart without expecting anything in return.

Deleted Member Amen, we need to have an attitude of gratitude, we should always feel grateful when Jesus ask us to give of ourselves or money or helping out others, in whatever way, because without Jesus we wouldn't have it anyway, our all belongs to Him, so we are just giving out of the abundance God has already blessed us with. I always want to be open to hear and obey and give and do whatever God wants from  me. Carol, you are a true blessing in the words that you share. Thank you for letting God use you.

Deleted Member I think many times Monica, many of us struggle with this area, its not because we don't want to give of our money or time and talents, but its just something that satan tries to keep us burdened down with. We can give from the heart and let Jesus do the rest. He will guide us to give what He wants us to, if we truly put our trust and faith in Him, He will guide and direct our footsteps. Just know He loves you so much and He cares about anything that troubles you. Just give it to Jesus and let Him handle this struggle. He will take care of it for you.

Julie Schneider
Julie Schneider One of my favorite things to give is gift cards from local restaurants or stores, and small items from a local small business.....the gift cards either come from the small business or are purchased from a local parochial school fundraiser. Either way it feels like a double blessing...one for the small business and one for the person that receives the card or gift!
