Facing Failure

He entered into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, 'Put out into the deep, and let down your nets for a catch.' Simon answered him, 'Master, we worked all night, and took nothing; but at your word I will let down the net.' When they had done this, they caught a great multitude of fish, and their net was breaking. Luke 5:3 WEB

After fishing all night long, they had caught nothing. Peter, James, and his brother John had given up and were washing the nets, but Jesus came down to the water's edge and asked to use one of their boats as a pulpit to teach from.

When Jesus was done teaching, He told Peter to 'Try it again.' Peter told Jesus that they had fished all night and caught nothing, 'but at Your word' we will let down the net. I am sure that Peter was skeptical. After all, he was the professional fisherman, but when he did what Jesus told him they caught more fish than their boats could hold.

Sometimes God calls us to do something that we have already done and failed at before, but there is a huge difference when He is in the boat with us. His grace makes all things possible and you can do all things through Christ when He strengthens you (Phil. 4:13).

If you feel God asking you to do something, but you have already been there and done that, be open to the idea. Even though you have toiled all night and caught nothing, at His word, let down the nets once again and trust Him to fill it. All things are possible with God.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for today and pray that You speak to me in a clear way that I understand. Help me to know You and recognize Your work. Lead me into all that You have for me, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
