Heads or Tails

  • For we were saved in hope, but hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for that which he sees? But if we hope for that which we don't see, we wait for it with patience. Romans 8:24-25 WEB.

"Oh, I just can't face tomorrow. I have a bad feeling about this." On and on we go, into a spiral of self-pity and hopelessness. Fear, anxiety, and depression begin to snowball around us, and it soon consumes us. Eventually, we have a complete lack of hope. Only bleak darkness is left.

Hope can be defined as expectation, trust, and confidence. Knowing that something good is coming your way. Fear can be defined as anxiety, apprehension, or dread. Knowing that something terrible is coming your way.

Hope and fear are polar opposites, and you can't live in one realm while walking in the other. A strange thing is that neither fear nor hope can be seen. Like the wind, both are invisible. It really takes just as much faith and energy to believe in one as it does in the other. The difference is that one builds you up, while the other tears you down.

Don't waste your time and energy on fear. Channel it into hope. Instead of speaking about the bad thing that might happen, pray and talk about the good you would like to happen. Then act accordingly and wait for it to come to pass. God does hear our prayers. He is not deaf. We just have to learn to grow up a little and to trust Him along the way. He has got this. When this is over, and you are looking back, you will feel silly to have doubted Him. I always do.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for today, and I am looking forward in hope for what You are doing in my life. I know that You will see me through whatever I face. I look to You for my needs. My help comes from the Lord! I choose to trust in You today. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
