Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be given to you. For with the same measure you measure it will be measured back to you. Luke 6:38 WEB
One year as Christmas approached, we felt like doing something special. Looking back, I am sure that it was the Holy Spirit prompting us. He needed us to plant seeds for what He planned to do in our lives the following year. We would need better equipment for what He had in store.
We owned a small computer business, and our work was slow that season. We had some used parts and spare time, but very little money, so we came up with an idea to take all the spare parts that we could muster and build them into working computers. Then we would find some widows in the church who didn't own one yet and bless them with a fully functioning computer. We managed to build and distribute about four computer systems that Christmas.
We made a few people very happy and had a great Christmas. Then in January, a client contacted us and gave us over $10,000 of new computer equipment. We got enterprise-level servers and firewalls that we would not have dreamed of buying. Some of it is still in use here at Refreshing Hope today. We reap what we have sown, better, and multiplied.
If you get the urge to be a blessing to someone, do it. Your flesh will always tell you to keep it for yourself, but the Holy Spirit will prompt you to give, and then He will bless you in return. God could bless you anyway, but He said, "Give, and it will be given to you." I didn't write it, I read it. That is His chosen way of doing things. The reverse could read: "Don't give, and it won't be given to you." Sowing and reaping work just as the farmers who plant and then harvest. If you don't plant seeds, the only things that come up are the weeds.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please show me the opportunities in my life to plant seeds that will make a difference. Guide me today and give me wisdom in my giving, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
