They said to you that "In the last time there will be mockers, walking after their own ungodly lusts." These are they who cause divisions, and are sensual, not having the Spirit. But you, beloved, keep building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. Jude 1:18'21 WEB.
I sat down in the break room to have lunch and prayed over my food as usual. When a guy at the next table, apparently very annoyed with my faith, started to mock me. I just smiled, ate my lunch, and left remembering: The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." (Psalm 14:1).
Like Elijah, I felt I was the only person in this place who had any reverence for God at all. I was on fire for Jesus at the time, and pleasing Him was all that mattered to me. I had become radically saved.
I've seen a lot of mockers in the workplace, especially while working in construction. They used to yell: "Pray for me, preacher! I am going to commit some adultery tonight, Lord willing!" and everyone would have a good laugh. I wasn't a preacher. I just went to church and thanked God for providing my lunch, but that was close enough for them.
After lunch that day, someone approached me in secret and explained that he was also a Christian. He wanted me to know but didn't want to tell anyone else because he would be mocked for his faith like me. He was a closet Christian.
I told him that while I didn't want to be mocked either, I wouldn't be ashamed of the Lord Jesus Christ, for that is a dangerous path. Jesus Christ warned us that if we were ashamed of Him, that He would be ashamed of us: "For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed" (Luke 9:26).
Being mocked is a small price to pay for a relationship. Would you deny knowing your spouse or mother because of what someone else thinks? If I have to choose between pleasing them or Jesus, they lose. If they fire me, there is another job waiting. If they knock me down, God can lift me up. If they beat me, God can heal me. If they kill me, then it will only send me to heaven to be with Him. "I have put my trust in God. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" (Psalms 56:11).
Pray and build yourself up in the Holy Spirit daily. For there will always be scoffers, but knowing Jesus is nothing to be ashamed of. A light is meant to shine and not be hidden under a basket (Matthew 5:15). So hold your head up, and act like you know Jesus on Monday as well as Sunday. It's fun to be radically saved.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for giving me another day here. Help me shine Your light, Lord. Please give me the strength to become who You created me to be. Enable me to stand strong for You in the face of adversity. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
