How to Feed a Possum

Therefore, I tell you, don't be anxious for your life: what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Isn't life more than food, and the body more than clothing? See the birds of the sky, that they don't sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you of much more value than they? Matthew 6:25'26 WEB.

Painstakingly I hand rubbed four chicken breasts with olive oil, seasoned them carefully, and pre-heated the grill to sear them. Then I slow cooked them over the flame, turning them back and forth on the grill until golden brown. After this, I placed my culinary creation on a plate, but as I turned and opened the door, three of them fell on the porch!

I wasn't too happy about this, but I took the three that dropped out to the edge of the woods by our home, and we split the last one between us. The next morning they were all gone. A possum and a stray dog had enjoyed a feast together. God had given them a banquet, and He'd had me prepare it for them, gourmet style.

God takes care of the entire universe. If He will take care of a possum and a stray dog, how much more will He take care of you? So many times, we get caught up in fear of what may come tomorrow, but God took care of you yesterday because you are here reading this.

We often panic because we don't believe God will take care of us. Instead, we trust temporary things that can easily vanish or be taken from us, as Laban did (Genesis 31:30). Yet, when trouble comes, so will the solution. When the need arises, so will the provision. You give your children what they need when the proper time comes. So does God.

Jesus told us, "But seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well" (Matthew 6:33). This verse means: "Ally yourself with God." We are not to be distracted by material needs. Our needs will be provided as long as we work with God and do His will. It's a leap of faith, and it requires us to trust Him.

God sees where you are today, and He understands. While we worry and agonize, He is busy preparing something good for us. It's beautiful when God turns the tide, and we find that all of our worry and fear was for nothing. I have put my trust in God. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? (Psalm 56:11).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You so much for providing for me. You know what I am facing here better than I do. My help comes from the Lord, and my eyes are on You. Please guide me and help me get involved in what You are doing on the earth today. I want to ally with You, Lord. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
