Aren't five sparrows sold for two assaria coins? Not one of them is forgotten by God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore don't be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12:6'7 WEB.
We live near the coast of South Carolina in the countryside and have a large oak tree in our yard that overshadows our porch. Sometimes we sit outside and read when the weather is nice, and it amazes me to see how many different types of small birds and animals come by when everything is quiet.
It's common to see blue jays, cardinals, doves, woodpeckers, wrens, mocking birds, finches, an occasional hummingbird, and the tiny sparrow. The air becomes filled with bird songs. Some of the little birds sing so loud that I wonder how so much sound can come from such a tiny head. They could compete with my guitar amplifier.
The birds are accompanied by gray squirrels running up and down the tree, searching for an acorn to store in their nest. Occasionally during their foraging, they will stop and peer curiously at us. At night, I have watched a possum strolling along the limbs and a rabbit racing back to the tall grass. That oak tree is home to so many of God's creatures, and a thriving community is happening there, all without our help. God takes care of them, as well as the oak tree. "The voice of the LORD makes the deer give birth" (Psalms 29:9).
Jesus told us that not even a small sparrow is forgotten by God. While Luke writes that five sparrows were sold for two pennies (Luke 12:6), Matthew writes that two sparrows were sold for one penny (Matthew 10:29). So if you bought two pennies worth of sparrows, you got an additional one free. Not even that free sparrow is forgotten by God.
Have you ever felt the Lord has forgotten you? I certainly have had times when I felt like that, but we aren't to live by our feelings alone. Even the hairs on your head are all numbered (Matthew 10:30). The righteous will live by their faith (Hebrews 10:38). Feelings change like the wind, while God's word stands strong forever. His word is our anchor.
You may feel like the Lord does not care, but He wants you to know that He does care. You may think that He doesn't know, but He wants you to know He does. You may feel that you have been forgotten, but He wants you to know that He will never forget you, His wonderful child.
So often, we get concerned about this or that. When actually, Jesus is the real answer to it all. We seek the desires of our hearts directly, but God told us, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:4).
The Lord knows exactly where you are today. You are not forgotten, His door is always open, and He wants you to trust Him. As you seek Him, your needs will automatically be taken care of (Luke 12:31) just as the birds of the air. In God, we trust.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You so much for loving me. I am sorry for my lack of trust when things get difficult. Please strengthen me, speak to me in a way that I understand, and help me build a deeper relationship with You. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
Note: For those following the Creation Photography weekly challenges, here is this week's theme from group leader, Dianna Wyles: Psalm 126:2 "Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, 'The Lord has done great things for them.'" ~ 'May There Always Be Laughter' will be our next fun-inspired theme, because why not laugh through the good times and the hard moments, too? Our themes are wide open for creative interpretation so show us some fun and creative laughable moments. We also encourage you to post anything else that inspires you as well. My photos this week reflect a few things that bring me joy and put laughter in my heart. I'm eager to see what makes you laugh out loud! Have a wonderful, joy-filled week everyone. May you all burst out laughing as often as possible! Here is the link: Creation Photographers
