For neither from the east, nor from the west, nor yet from the south, comes exaltation. But God is the judge. He puts down one, and lifts up another. Psalm 75:6-7 WEB.
During a personal time of revival in my life, I began to fast and pray hard for the Lord to remove anything holding me back from being closer to Him. I was thinking spiritually, but it turns out that the Lord is a bit more practical than I thought at the time. I was a foreman with a maintenance company and had to work twelve-hour shifts over the weekend when the plant was closed. Being I worked from 7 AM until 7 PM on Sunday, I couldn't attend church.
Within two weeks of praying this, I was called to the office and laid off. Now I was free to go to church, but I found myself standing in the unemployment line. I couldn't find a job anywhere! I enrolled in bible college at night and listened to an audio Bible during the day. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It made my seminary work a breeze, for the answers popped back into my memory when I needed them.
I prayed, "Lord, put me where You want me to be, but let me be able to listen to Your word!" I thought that a Christian bookstore would be great. Looking back on it, I should have mentioned that. He waited until the last day of my unemployment benefits. When I could no longer pay the bills, I had to do something quickly. That day I received a call from a temp service I had applied to a while back.
They had an opening at a factory running a brass polishing machine. I went to meet them, and the first thing the manager said was, "Are you ready to start? Bring something to listen to because it can be pretty boring in here." I felt the Holy Spirit whisper, "This is what you asked for." So I said, "Yep."
My salary went from $17 per hour to $6, and I came home black as smut every day. They never promoted anyone there. If you started in a position, that is where you stayed. Many of the people didn't like me because I was "different." They partied all the time, came in with hangovers, and openly did drugs. At the same time, I was praying in the Spirit and listening to the bible with headphones.
I didn't do anything special. I just prayed a lot, worked hard, and then it all happened so quickly. Within three months, the foreman quit, and I was promoted to his position with a raise. Within six months, the manager was fired, and I was promoted to his job with another raise. The Lord turned the whole place around. A mini-revival broke out. People got saved, and when I went to church, I would fill my entire row with guests. We played the bible over the intercom all day so we all could hear it because everyone there was a Christian. Jesus is contagious.
Can you be promoted right where you are, even if your boss dislikes you? Absolutely! The Lord may just give you their job. No one on Earth can hold you back from what God has in store for you, except you.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please put me where you want me to be, and give me the promotions You want me to have. Help me become the very best version of myself. I submit my life to You! In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
