Walking A Tightrope

Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will command his angels concerning you,' and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, so that you don't dash your foot against a stone.' " Jesus said to him, "Again, it is written, 'You shall not test the Lord, your God.' " Matthew 4:5'7 WEB.

A man walked across Niagara Falls on a thin wire some years ago. It was windy, and he balanced himself with a long pole he carried as he made the amazing twenty-five-minute trip.

It required careful balance and constant correction to stay on the wire. If the man had leaned a little too far left or right, he would have probably fallen to his death. So he took his time, stayed centered and balanced, and reached the other side.

The devil tried to get Jesus to prove He was the Son of God by jumping off the pinnacle of the temple in front of everyone. This would have been a fall of around four-hundred-fifty feet and certain death.

Though the Scripture satan quoted was true, it was used wrongfully in this case. It was twisted to be out of balance with the rest of Scripture. Thankfully, Jesus knew the Word of God better than His enemy.

The most believable lies always have an element of truth in them. We are to rightly divide the Word and test things against the whole body of Scripture (2 Timothy 2:15).

We need balance in every area of our lives, for our enemy will always try to make us think too much of ourselves or too little. To work too hard or not at all. To give nothing or give everything. Yet, the truth is in the middle, like the man walking across Niagara Falls, and not in one extreme or the other.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me find balance in my life. Let me see my priorities through Your eyes. Make what is important to You important to me. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
