"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you," says Yahweh, "thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. You shall call on me, and you shall go and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You shall seek me and find me, when you search for me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:11-13 WEB.
I returned to church early in the afternoon because I was in the band, and we needed to rehearse for the evening service. An evangelist from out of state spoke that day, and he was already inside the building. Earlier that morning, when the service was over, everyone else left, but he stayed behind, put on his headphones, and began to worship God.
I was the first of the band to arrive, so I unlocked the church door and walked in on the strangest sight ever. I found the evangelist dancing and spinning around the church sanctuary with his arms in the air like he was King David (2 Samuel 6:14, 1Chronicles 15:29). It was quite a sight to behold. His eyes were closed, his headphones were blasting praise and worship music, and he was lost in openly worshiping God.
Not wanting to embarrass or startle him, I brought up the lights slowly. When he saw me, he gave a quick wave, then continued dancing as if I wasn't even there. He was certainly not embarrassed to have been caught worshiping the Lord, nor was he ready to stop.
That was one of the most anointed men I have ever met, every word of his message burned into your heart. You could hear God speaking through him. Revival followed him wherever he went. Sometimes what began as a one-night meeting would turn into a three-week revival. That was twenty years ago, and when I saw him recently, he was still on fire for the Lord. He keeps the fire burning.
That day I learned that even though I was a deacon, serving in the praise team, had been through seminary, and was ordained, there were levels of knowing Jesus that I hadn't experienced yet. There was a depth to the relationship. An intimacy to be had and sought after, just as King David had with God. It is still obtainable today, but you have to pursue it.
God promises that you will find Him when you search for Him with all of your heart. All of it, not part of it. I am still seeking Him myself, and I pray that you do as well. Knowing God intimately is the greatest reward this life has to offer, and one day I would love to be as free as the dancing preacher.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want more of You in my life. Consume me, Lord, shake me up, break me out, set me free to serve You with my whole heart. I don't know what I need to do, but You do. Please make it happen in my life. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
