“All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11: 27-30
In my almost 49 years of this life, I have carried unnecessary burdens for my friends and loved ones. It has been a struggle to feel guilt, shame and the inability to fix things for others. My own personal yoke I carried has been very heavy laden to the point I wanted to give up and walk away from it all. I wanted to leave the ones I loved behind because I was mentally exhausted. I wanted to choose the selfish and easy way out but God had different plans for me. He never gave up on me and he will never give up on you.
I am far from perfect and I have made a great many mistakes but as I look back in this life, I can see my feelings of guilt; shame and worry only hurt me. It didn’t help the ones I loved as you see all these things I struggled with worked out on their own or let’s say they worked out with the help of God’s hand.
God gave his son to walk upon this earth as we are, he became in human form to where he truly knows our struggles and because of this we can give our weary, burdened and worrisome ways or things such as our loved ones, financial issues, grief, guilt, shame and so on to him and he will walk beside us and he will carry us through. He will carry your burden but most important he will help lightened the load.
In this scripture it tells us that No one knows the son except the Father and no one knows the Father except the Son. Jesus tells us here to give him our yoke and to carry his; He will give us peace that surpasses all understanding. Learn of his patience, learn of his comfort. Once we learn to do this, Life will become easier. It’s not going to change overnight because we are human. We want to control things; we want to tell others what they should to do. But we know nothing without the Father. We are weak without his strength.
So we build on this new learning experience, we ask Jesus to take the load of our weariness and then we trust him with the deepest of our beings that he knows best. We must refuse to allow Satan to put us in the middle of all the messed up drama that builds walls and shields against the very people we love. That is Satan’s goal; he wants us to keep looking down the valley of despair because it takes our eyes off of Jesus.
Jesus is not a liar, Satan is the liar! Jesus tells us in John 14:6 by answering, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him”.
So why do we not choose to surrender our heavy burdens to him? We can’t change people. We can’t change personalities. We are not God so we need to stop acting like God and gather all these worries in the palm of our hand and literally give them to God. Tell him, “God I am not you! I can’t do this without you. I have these worries, these fears, all my loved ones that are lost. I can’t fix them without you so I am giving them to you. Then take your handful of burden and give them to him, trust him to take care of things. When the weariness returns, you are taking your eyes off of Jesus. Do it again, again and again till you recognize it when you do it.
God loves you and me; he doesn’t want us to feel beaten down. Let others see his light through you. Let others know the Good News he brings us. For you see when we take his yoke upon us and learn from him, we will realize he is gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls for his yoke is easy and his burden is light.
