Just as I Am

The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram, and Ram the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon, and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David the king. And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah Matt. 1:1-6 ESV

Adulterers, former prostitutes, some born from incest, fathers that slept with their daughter-in-law, the genealogy of Jesus amazes me. If I were God, I would have probably made so many changes in the first paragraph alone. Tamar was Judah’s daughter-in-law (Gen 38:16). Rahab was a former prostitute (Josh 2:1). Ruth was a Moabite which means that she came from incest between Lot and his own daughter while he was drunk (Gen 19:36). Solomon was born from David and Bathsheba, after David had her husband Uriah killed and took her as his own wife (2Sam. 12:24).

All these people had problems, yet God chose them to be in the lineage of the Lord Jesus. Their lives were successful because there is forgiveness when we make mistakes. His grace is sufficient. Your problems will not stop God from using you, only you can do that. The things that you do not want to talk about, He already knows about.

He wants to use you right now, just as you are, yet we often resist and say that we are not worthy and will not let Him. Life is not all about your faults and frailty. Stop looking at your own weaknesses and believe that if God calls you to do something, He will also equip you to do it.
