Joseph said to his brothers, 'I am Joseph! Does my father still live?' His brothers couldn't answer him; for they were terrified at his presence. Joseph said to his brothers, 'Come near to me, please.' They came near. 'He said, I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. Now don't be grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.' Genesis 45:3 WEB
Joseph was sold into slavery by his own brothers, then he spent time in prison for a crime that he did not commit, but he served God and continued to use the gifts in his life wherever he found himself. Joseph was of exceptional character and the Lord was with him. He did not become filled with bitterness and spend his time sulking in a corner, licking his wounds. He did not get overcome by past events, and that is all that they were, events.
When Joseph became the ruler over Egypt, his brothers stood before him hungry and in need. When given an opportunity to get even, Joseph pardoned them and let them go. He knew that God was in control of his life. He told them 'God sent me before you to preserve life.'
When you have bitterness against someone else, it is like drinking poison yourself and thinking that it will hurt them, but it will only hurt you. You will just become an angry bitter person that no one wants to be around, and will be handed over to the tormentors (Matt 18:34) until you let it go. That is not a good plan.
When they do not want to live with you any longer, let them go. God has someone better waiting that will treat you right. When you wrongfully lose your job, let it go. Smile, God has a better one coming and you would have been unavailable.
When your family has treated you like dirt, let it go. Stay sweet and continue the love walk. Like Joseph, God can lift you above them and they will have to look up to you one day.
When you feel that your entire life has been one long mistake, let it go. Turn to God and He will wash you as white as snow and give you a new beginning. Hold onto God every day, but let the past events go.
Prayer: Father I pray that You give me the grace to let go of my past. I want to serve You Lord and walk in all that You have for me. Guide me, teach me, help me to see through Your eyes, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
