Ecclesiastes 7:1: A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth.
Matthew 26:12-13: When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. I tell you the truth, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.
Many people say that the woman who poured out the perfume on Jesus was a prostitute. Many say she was a common criminal. Some say she was Mary of Martha and Mary. Regardless of who she once was, she was liberated, and accepted through her one interaction with Jesus. Whatever identity she had, it was all changed in an instant. She is immortalized in the word of God. Regardless of what her name was, it is even better than the perfume that she poured out on Jesus. She could have kept that to herself, sold it, and lived well on that perfume. It was very valuable, but instead she used it to prepare Jesus for burial.
You see Jesus without His death He would not have needed to be born and it is with that idea that we know how important that preparation was to Him. He was worshipped and loved by the nameless, the lowly, the nobodies of the world. That is who He was prepared to go to the grave for. This woman would never have had the fame of Peter, Paul, Moses, Abraham. She was nameless, and yet wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will be told.
We are all the nameless woman, and we show that preparation for the Servant King when we pour out our offering on Him. That is the sweet aroma to the Father. When we give praise and time to Jesus, it is like pouring out our perfume on Jesus. God the Father loves nothing more than for His children to recognize, praise and worship His beloved Son, Jesus Christ. If you feel like you are in lack, then pour out praise, the sweet aroma over Jesus for abundance. If you feel alone, then pour out your praise on Jesus, and feel Him comfort you and introduce you to the right person. If you feel like a nobody, like everyone else is better than you, then pour out your praise on Jesus and He will make you remembered by many just like He did for this woman.
Pour out your praise and time on Jesus. Sure we could spend it working, making money, to give to the poor, but we will always be able to do that any time. Today pour out the beautiful expensive one of a kind praise that can only come from you. Watch Jesus pour out His precious life on you.
Father, we thank You for blessing us with Jesus. Today we choose to pour out the one thing we possess in us right this second and that is praise for Jesus. We ask that You see this as a sweet aroma and bless us all today with Your presence and love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
