Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, 'If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink! He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.' But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. John 7:37 WEB
In the hot Southern summer here, the air conditioners struggle to keep our data center cool enough, especially during record breaking temperatures. It is often blazing, sticky, and uncomfortable in the summer time. During most of the year, we are not the best at drinking the proper amount of water that we should, but there is nothing quite as refreshing and life-giving as a cold glass of water on a hot day. It can literally give us chills.
The Lord has promised to give living water to those who are thirsty, to those who seek Him out more than anything else. A psalmist wrote "Like a deer panting for water so my soul longs after you" (Psalms 42:1). There is a point where nothing else will do but the presence of the Lord, for there is no substitute.
His water is for the thirsty. It is not for the preachers, the priests, the praise team, or the theologians, unless they are thirsty. You've got to want it. You've got to want Him.
Intense heat will bring on a powerful thirst. Sometimes the things that make us go "Oh, woe is me" are actually just preparing us to be thirsty for more of Him. When your back is to the wall, there is no substitute for the presence of the Lord because He gives water to the thirsty. Be thankful when God gives you the opportunity to lean on Him and to have your thirst quenched by His living water.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your living water. I so thirst for more of Your presence and pray that You fill me with Your Holy Spirit freshly today, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
Note: "I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer" (Psalm 17:6) If you have a prayer need, we are here for you! We and the prayer team are ready to lift you up at our private prayer page: RHM Prayer Network
