Why is the LORD bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become a prey. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt? And they said to one another, 'Let us choose a leader and go back to Egypt.' Numbers 14:2 ESV
The Israelites were standing on the border of the land that God had promised to give them. God had done incredible signs and wonders in their lives and had just delivered them from slavery in Egypt. Now, when so close to a major breakthrough, they stubbornly refused to take the next step. They wanted to kill Moses, appoint a new leader and return to Egypt. They would do anything except what God asked them to do, and they had now reached the end of the line. They would go no further.
I have seen many people get stalled in life because they could not take that next step. While standing on the border of their own promised land, they were too terrified or stubborn to do what God asked, and they just sat there. Some of us should have left that place fifteen years ago, but we could not let it go. There are pastors in churches that should have left years ago, but they they still sit there fossilized. God will not make you obey. He will let you die off and use your children when you refuse to take the next step.
You can break the cycle. Choose to obey the Lord's prompting, it is for your own good. Though it looks short term scary, it will be long term beneficial. Pray hard and take the risk. If you feel that you have been left behind and are no longer where you should be, repent, get up and take the next step. God will restore you and put you back on track.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me the grace to follow you wherever you call me. Help me to face any obstacle and stay in step with You. Let me be the one that enters the land and does not retreat, in the name of Jesus.
