It happened, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, It is the king of Israel. Therefore they turned about to fight against him: but Jehoshaphat cried out, and Yahweh helped him; and God moved them to depart from him. It happened, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him. 2 Chronicles 18:31 WEB
Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah went into battle and soon got into trouble when a whole group of chariot commanders began to chase him, thinking that he was someone else. When he cried out, the Lord helped and drew the enemy away from him.
If Jehoshaphat had not cried out to God, it is hard to say what would have happened. It is quite possible that he would have died on the battlefield like Josiah. When the enemy turned to attack him, that was all the encouragement that he needed to ask God for help. It does not record what he said but it probably included: 'God help me!'
Sometimes we view asking for prayer as a weakness and we put it off as long as possible. We quietly hide what is going on in our life, often because of pride. Jehoshaphat left his pride on the battlefield when he saw real trouble coming his way. His battlefield tactics were to cry out to God in prayer.
We are all in a battle, and our real strength and protection is not our own, but comes from God Almighty. Do not wait until you are beaten down and weak to start asking God for help. When the attack begins, call for backup immediately.
Prayer: Heavenly Father I thank You for hearing my cry for help. Protect me and my family today Lord, draw our hearts closer to You and fulfill Your perfect will in our life, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
