Pilate therefore said to him, "Aren't you speaking to me? Don't you know that I have power to release you, and have power to crucify you?" Jesus answered, "You would have no power at all against me, unless it were given to you from above. Therefore he who delivered me to you has greater sin." John 19:10'11 WEB.
Beaten and bloody, wearing a purple robe and a crown made of thorns, Jesus quietly listened to Pilate speak. When He didn't answer Pilate's question, Pilate began to tell Jesus he had the authority to set Him free or to crucify Him. Jesus let Pilate finish, then said that he would have no power over Him unless it had been given to him from above.
Jesus recognized where He was and that it was no accident. No man had authority over Him unless it had been given to them. No one could take His life from Him unless His heavenly Father allowed it to happen. The Humble King of Kings submitted to His Father's will and endured the cross.
When Job went through his trial, satan had to get permission from God before touching him. Job was a righteous man, and God had placed a hedge of protection around him, his house, and all he had (Job 1:10). A much stronger barrier would have been around Jesus. They could only harm Him if God allowed them to.
The ones in authority over you today are allowed to be there by God. No one can touch or lay a hand on you without your Father's permission. I know things happen that we don't understand, like Stephen being stoned while his face shone like an angel (Acts 7:59). Yet, we must remember that we can't see the whole picture as He can. So until the Lord tells you otherwise, prayerfully submit to those in leadership over you, for they wouldn't be there without His permission. Great servants can also become great leaders.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me see Your hand on my life. Give me a clear vision of Your will for me and the grace to accomplish it today. I want what You want. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
