When I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on me. My strength was sapped in the heat of summer. Selah. I acknowledged my sin to you. I didn't hide my iniquity. I said, I will confess my transgressions to Yahweh, and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah Psalms 32:3-5 WEB.
David had gotten a married woman pregnant, then had her husband Uriah killed, though he was one of David's mighty men (1 Chronicles 11:41). His sin gave him no rest but kept eating away at him day and night. David became restless and wasted away. His peace was gone. The sweet fellowship that he once had with the Lord had now been broken because of his sin. David wrote Psalm 32 after his affair and marriage to Bathsheba.
Sin is a slippery slope and will eventually catch up with you. One sin leads to another, and another, like lie upon lie. It gets easier each time. You can't have peace with God when your conscience is constantly eating away at you. Repentance is the brake pedal that stops it.
If you ever find yourself wasting away, remember this fact: No matter what you have done in this life, in thirty seconds, you can be right with God, washed as white as snow, and start over with a clean slate. What is lost can be restored. That which is broken can be repaired. While you breathe, there is hope.
Pray this and mean it: "Lord Jesus, please forgive me for what I have done and come into my life and be My Lord and Savior from this day on."
He will take care of the details. So keep a shortlist with God. Be quick to repent, and don't get caught in an endless loop while your life wastes away around you. The sooner that you deal with it, the better you will feel.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your forgiveness. Please help me keep my life on course and draw my heart to You in a deeper way. I want You to be a part of my life. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
