Set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips. Psalms 141:3 WEB.
David prayed that the Lord would set a guard over his mouth to keep him from saying things that he should not. James said, "If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well" (James 3:3). If you can control your tongue, then you can control the rest of your body. Then James warned us that blessing and cursing should not flow out of the same source.
In the Old Testament (Numbers 14:28), the Lord said, "What I have heard you say, I will do to you." In the New Testament (Matthew 12:36), Jesus said: "I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words, you will be condemned."
So we have a continuing pattern through scripture: The words that come out of your mouth directly affect your life and circumstances. It was covered in the Old Testament and continues through the New Testament.
A mentor of mine used to say: "Words unspoken, you are their master. Words once spoken, you are their slave."
Don't speak negative things about your life, your family, or those around you. Say good things about them, or learn to say nothing at all. Stay positive in your speech. When you are speaking today, listen to the words that you are saying. Like David, pray that God sets a guard over your mouth and that He makes you aware of your speech.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that You set a guard over my lips and let me hear what comes out of my mouth. Please forgive me for the things that I have said wrong and cleanse my heart. For out of the abundance of my heart, my mouth speaks. Please help me be a positive influence on those around me today. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
Note: βDo not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.β (Philippians 4:6-7) ~ If you have a prayer need, we are here for you! We and the prayer team are ready to lift you up at our private prayer page: RHM Prayer Network
Would be wonderful if the Bible verses were high lighted so we could just click on them and they would come up. Not sure that I can explain it right. Thanks for listening! Anna Sword/Myers

Hi Anna :)! We had something like that in mind for quite a while - Lord willing, we will be able to make that happen at some point :).
Amen and Amen and Amen, this I ask and pray today!!! Oh, what your mentor said to you at one appointed time were so true, Pastor, I accept them today as if they were spoken to me!! Words hastily spoken are like leaves in the wind, they are gone forever, and I/we can never take them back, and only by prayer Lord-willing bring about a change but only with the Lord's help! Thank you so much for today's devotion!!!
