Again, a second time he went away, and prayed, saying, "My Father, if this cup can't pass away from me unless I drink it, your desire be done." He came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. He left them again, went away, and prayed a third time, saying the same words. Matthew 26:42 WEB.
On the night that Jesus was betrayed, He knew trouble was coming. He was troubled in His spirit, so He went to the garden of Gethsemane to pray. That is where He gained strength. Jesus kept praying and went back three times, repeating the same words.
There is a time to pray in faith and stand on it, but here we see Jesus Himself go back and pray the same words again when He was troubled and sorrowful. He prayed until He had the peace in His spirit to face the trial that was soon coming.
I often pray while driving down the road, cutting the grass, or walking through a grocery store, but real peace comes to me when my face is on the carpet, pouring my heart out to God. Learning to pray hard and be honest and sincere will change your life.
Submit your life to God's plan with, "My Father, Your will be done." I have seen impossible situations change overnight through intense prayer, but you have got to be desperate. You have got to want change and be willing to do it His way instead of yours. For example, I prayed and prayed for our computer business, but He wanted me in ministry instead. My will had to go for His to come.
While in his 40s, one of my seminary teachers developed a deadly stomach cancer, a type that no one had previously survived. He grew deathly sick and bedridden. The doctors were out of ideas and were ready to call in hospice.
One night, the church had a prayer meeting, especially for him, and they brought him there. The intercessors anointed him with oil and prayed intensely for him for over four hours. He went home and began to vomit up an awful black liquid. When the next morning came, he no longer had cancer. He is now in his 80s and still teaching.
If you are facing something difficult and are troubled, anxious, and sorrowful. Then find a quiet place alone and spend time praying and sitting in the Lord's presence until the peace comes. That's the way Jesus did it, and He is our example. If you are too weak, find others who will pray with you. When the peace finally comes, you will be able to face anything.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please lead me into all that You have for me and surround me with people who are willing to pray. Help me see the big picture through Your eyes and to trust in You. Guide my decisions and protect me from deception. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
