A man's steps are established by Yahweh. He delights in his way. Though he stumble, he shall not fall, for Yahweh holds him up with his hand. I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread. All day long he deals graciously, and lends. His offspring is blessed. Psalm 37:23-26 WEB.
David had the experience of an entire life behind him when he wrote this Psalm. He had once been young, and now he was old. He had been anointed by Samuel as a young boy and went on to kill lions, bears, and giants. He became an experienced shepherd, an accomplished musician, and an excellent soldier.
Young David was victorious at every turn, but King Saul, his father-in-law, became so jealous that he tried to kill David. For years David had to run from Saul and hide in caves, live with Philistines, or wherever he could find safety. Those who were outcasts from society and in trouble began to gather around him and soon became an army of mighty men. David made friends in low places. Saul was eventually killed during a battle with the philistines. Then David became the King of Israel when he was thirty years old. He was a king for the next forty years.
David began his life as a poor shepherd boy. He was the least in his family. Yet, when he passed away, he left his son Solomon with 3,000 talents of gold and 7,000 talents of silver from his personal treasury to help build the new temple. One gold talent weighed about 75 pounds. In 2019 each gold talent would be worth over 1.4 million US dollars. So David left Solomon billions from his personal bank account to help build the temple.
God took care of David all the way through, and he ended well. After all of that experience, David wrote that not once did he ever see the righteous forsaken or their children begging for bread. Not even once. Though there were times when things looked bad for him, there would always be enough to eat when needed.
If you serve God, He will take care of you. The things that you suffer through will develop your character. Every child needs discipline, and we are no different, but know that God provides for His people. So many times in my life, tomorrow looked terrifying, but when it arrived, so did an unexpected blessing that countered the bad. I have put my trust in God. What can man do to me?

The story of David is one of my favorites. David was a man after God's own heart even through he sinned with Bathsheba and had her husband Yuria killed in the war. God still loved David and blessed him.
God has provided for me so many times when I thought
"how will this work out" when I couldn't see beyond today.
He would teach me to be still and know that I am God.
He would show me His strength and to put my trust in Him.
All the while building my character and still is.
I am so thankful for all He is and does
in my life and for all that He has done for me and my husband.
